AI GEOSTAT - SIC 2004 Exercise
Our company had participated SIC (Spatial Interpolation Comparison) 2004 Exercise sponsored by AI GEOSTAT, an international user group of geostatistics, in September 2004. It is a scientific exercise which is dedicated to Decision Support Systems and Spatial Statistics.
The exercise issue is about AUTOMATIC INTERPOLATION.
Participants receive a set of an environmental data set which are typically measurements of an environmental variable. For this exercise, the measured data are gamma dose rates of the natural ambient radioactivity. These data are provided kindly by the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), which are reported by means of the national automatic monitoring network (IMIS). In addition, spatial coordinates of the sampling places are given. Participants have to estimate the values taken by the variable at other output locations which are provided. The true values found at these output locations will be made public at the end of the exercise. Various criteria will be used to assess the performances of the interpolation algorithms (time of calculation, minimum errors, etc.) together with the interpolated variable contour maps and uncertainty contour maps. There are more than 30 organizations from over 20 countries worldwide joining the exercise. More results of the exercise will be posted on this page in the near future.
